What a Fun-Packed Weekend: Local Fall Events in Lancaster

Autumn shows us how beautiful it is to let things go.

This was one of those weekends where you think you’re only doing this one event and then events pop up and keep popping up. Even though I’m pretty tired and my social battery is completely out of juice, it was an amazing weekend and I’m glad I kept saying yes.

This weekend was alllllll about local events and somewhat local events. Even though I can’t travel every day of the year (I really wish I could and make a living) there’s so much to explore and do near where I live that even on weekends we’re at home, it can feel like we’re traveling since there’s so much to experience.

Lately, my philosophy is saying yes, trying new things, and seeing just what I can do if I step outside my comfort zone. It’s been quite the fulfilling adventure so far. Read on for this weekend’s escapades around Lancaster and Hershey!

Troegs Hop Dash 5k

Every year, Troegs Brewery in Hershey, PA hosts a 5k that quickly became a Lancaster County favorite. Will has gotten into running the past few months and asked me to train with him and do the race. I really don’t fully enjoy running, but 5ks are always fun, so of course I said yes. My runs and training progress were uuuuuugly but I did it! We even joined a group called Lancaster Beer Runners and started running with them. Highly recommend them if you’re in the area and love to run or will run for beer/food.

Race day arrived and we made the 40 minute drive to the brewery in Hershey. Everything about the race day was so well organized that we just showed up and had a great experience before we even started running. There are a LOT of hills in that part of PA and we ran up many of them. This was the first 5k I’ve done in YEARS so the challenge of not walking and just powering up the hills was so invigorating.

I’m proud to say that I finished with my best 5k time ever: 33.5 minutes. My other stats are below! Mostly, I showed up, fulfilled my promise to myself to just finish and not walk, and I had a great time.

The route itself was beautiful and had a great mix of shade and sun. The weather could not have been more perfect.

We had friends running the race and they placed top 3 in their age group.

After the race, we got 2 free beers each, lots of snacks, live music, and there were a few food trucks if you wanted to purchase food. What a great freaking day.

Back in Lancaster, we wanted to treat the dogs to their own special exercise event. So, we put them in the car and took them to the dog park by us that is nothing short of epic. It’s an even better day when you get to spend the morning having an adventure as a couple and then the afternoon spoiling your dogs.

Octoberfest: TellUs360

An event focusing on beer drinking is not my favorite, BUT Will absolutely loves it and I will always find something fun about an event because I’m just that kind of person. TellUs360 is one of my favorite venues in Lancaster. It’s 3 floors of music/event space with different food vendors and a rooftop bar. They’re just plain awesome.

Octoberfest did not disappoint. The event started at 12 and we got a beer stein to take home and a free beer each. Will gets all of my beer, so he always gets double at these events. Winning! They had one of the food vendors set up with traditional German food, a live band (Doppelgänger) playing German music, and a stein holding contest.

The music was fun and the food was great. Then came the stein holding contest which I was pumped and nervous for. Most of the people we went to the event with signed up so it was even more fun to do with friends. There were two rounds for the men and another two rounds for the women. Then whoever won each of those heats faced off to be declared the winner for the guys and the winner for the women.

I WON THE FIRST ROUND. I went into it like I did my bodybuilding competitions and basically did not give myself the option to fail. The final round I came in second which I’m super proud of. Those steins were huge and heavy, but I did it!

Lancaster Shoutouts

It’s no surprise that I absolutely adore where I live. There are so many events year round that we’ve either been to or have been wanting to attend. The city does a fantastic job of creating diverse options for everyone. Huge shoutout to Troegs and TellUs360 this weekend for giving us an incredible time we won’t forget. I could not have asked for a better weekend with friends and Will.
